Tan Li Yi: I think that the fieldtrip is very good for us students, as this can help us in our history and know Singapore’s history better. The Japanese soldiers are very cruel as they killed many innocent people in Singapore. The people killed by the Japanese are estimated about fifty thousand. I learnt that the Japanese people are very superstitious, they always bury their hair and nails. If they die, their partners will chop their hands off, and carry with them till they reach their home town. Their partners then bury the hand with the hair and nails. And then they would cremate it before placing the ashes in a shrine. They believe this will help them to reincarnate.
Gan Kee Poh: After going there, I learn now about History of Singapore. Feel sad to know how Japanese torture people during the war… Example is that people caught with radio will be deaf as Japanese will take two chopsticks, put inside their ear and hit it in… Learn that British have use five big 15-inch guns, three in Changi and two in Buona Vista. The three guns in Changi formed the Johore Battery. The bullet they use is 800kg,if I am not wrong, and it can punch through the wall of the battle-ship. Went to Changi Beach, sad to know that how people were killed at there. People were told to dig a hole in front of them, after a while, the Japanese will fire randomly toward them. We went there and walk around, throw flowers to the sea to “ pay respect” to them.
Chloe Tan: I think that this trip that our school had organized helped us to understand the history of Singapore and the Japanese Occupation better. I think that what the Japanese had done to us is very cruel and evil. These innocent people shouldn't have had deserved this. They died without realising what they had done wrong. And i think that this is very wrong. We learnt more about what the Japanese had done to Singaporea and the people living here. For example, the Japanese brought innocent men to Changi Beach to kill them there. Changi Beach was also one of the locations that we went to that day to pay respect to the dead Chinese Men being brought there to get executed.
Wong Pei Shan: i found the trip very interesting and exicting as we got to learn more about the hitsory of Singapore. I also learnt more about World War II in SIngapore from 1942 to 1945 and how the Japanese tourtured the Singaporeans and British. We also went to Changi Beach where we paid respect to the innocent Chinese men who were executed there by the Japanese.
Teo Yee Ching: I found the Battle Field trip very interesting, meaningful and fun. It made us understand more about the history of Singapore and the Japanese Occupation. We were able to learn about many things through this trip. We were all shocked and sad when we knew how the innocent people in Singapore were being tortured by the Japanese during the war. It was a cruel and evil act. Lastly, we also went to the Changi Beach where we paid respect to the people who were executed there by the Japanese.
